OK this only occurs when using the "bold"-button in the tool-bar. Using Ctrl + b works fine in both directions. Though I have noticed using Ctrl + b makes the text much bolder then the tool-bar button does, is that a feature? Anyway, the problem with bold text toggled through the button persists, as temporary work around you can press Ctrl + b until you get back to normal text-weight.

As per bug #575831, Inkscape no longer uses a bold button but a dropdown instead. The dropdown seems to work fine, so marking this as fixed.
