Bug Description

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

the song notification appears only if rhythmbox is iconified in the tray. It would be better if it was displayed also when the rhythmbox window does not have focus, so the user is informed as he does not see the window

Yes, I was about the post a bug about notifications not working at all for rhythmbox, until I found this gem, which explains everything. They only work if it is minimalized to a tray.

Why not just _always_ show the notifications? Or at least, always show it when it's not focused!

yeah I also think this would be the best solution

How do I get the fixed version? :)

you wait for a fixed version to be available on build one yourself, we don't update the package every time they do a code change but wait for new version to update

Glad to see that this functionality has been changed, imo, for the better.

One more reason to switch to karmic :)

OK I just now saw that it is now configurable in the status icon plugin. I'm setting this back to confirmed to start a discussion:
What is the default value of the setting we ship in Ubuntu now?
Because I think this configuration option is pretty much non-discoverable. I would have never thought that I can change the behaviour of the notification bubble in the status plugin options

1) Why should I be looking at the plugins for something quite central such as the song notification?
2) What does the notification have to do with the status icon?

So if we agree that the setting "Always visible" is the more sensible one (see also the gnome-bugs discussion), we should make sure that it is set as the default (I cannot check at the moment what the default value is).

Janne, please open a new bug for that. The original issue is fixed and it's only confusing to start discussing on another problem. Thanks.
