[needs-packaging] apt-fast

apt-fast downloads repositories (package sources) and packages in parallel, which can greatly shorten the time it takes to update a system. In contrast, the default package manager (apt-get or aptitude) downloads repositories and packages sequentially.

Currently, installing apt-fast requires custom installation:

I'd like to see this application in the main repositories and Ubuntu Software Center.

"needs-packaging" isn't asking for a .deb package - it is requesting that it be included in the official Ubuntu repositories.

Dropping it into the repositories would be a great first step, but in an ideal world we could just use this code to patch upstream and then the vanilla apt-get would just be faster. Either way, super cool to have this.

I agree totally, apt-get should be enhanced to (by default) do what apt-fast has accomplished.

Why is this NOT the default functionality of apt? I realise some people still dont have Internet Connection capable of handling parallel connections. But that no-longer applies to the majority!

Please either add the functionality to apt, or include apt-fast in the repository's.

I'd love to see this in the main repository. I'm currently doing some modding to apt-fast so that update uses multiple connections as well.
