I have this problem too, but my totem depends on gstreamer1.0, not 0.10.

Could the problem be upstream bug https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=688803
apparently fixed, though I don't think the code has trickled into the ubuntu repos

With a fully updated updated 13.04 with gstreamer 0.10.13-5, DVD's still give the same error. Screenshot attached.

I had the same problem but

http://askubuntu.com/questions/185587/why-does-dvd-playback-still-not-work-after-installing-libdvdcss2

sudo apt-get install libdvdread4
sudo sh /usr/share/doc/libdvdread4/install-css.sh

fixed the problem of mine.

I have libdvdread4 and all pertinent codecs installed on my fully updated 13.04 64bit system, but I still have the problem described in comment #'s 8 & 9.

I can confirm what Robin Hicks is saying. I'm working with a fresh install of 13.04 I had libdvdread4 already installed. I ran the install-css script, and It does NOT work.

I had to use mplayer to play the dvd.

Same problem now in 13.10. The last release that I had no dvd problems in was 12.04.
