please try to setup the virtual desktop using winecfg and run the program.
I am using kubuntu, will test this with 0.9.33 delivered from multiverse

This programs need native ntoskrnl.exe and hal.dll
Hence this might not start with current wine version 0.9.33
I might well work with wine 0.9.38 or greater

The Wine in Ubuntu Hardy now has support for hal.dll, and is much newer. Please retest. Thank you.
