Bug Description

I used the software updater on my new 13.04 version and it messed up many things. I should mention that it showed at least a couple dozen updates - which I said to install. Then, problems galore. I could start programs but the would not close - although they did reach a state of unuseability/

Pleas, how can I best go back to 12.10 .... or reinstall 13.04 completely?

long time linux user, since '96 I think, starting with Red Hat and lately the last three versions of Ubuntu. That is just to say I'm not a newbie - not that there's anything wrong with newbies.
