Bug Description

Unity stopped working after I removed Bumblebee package (being astonished by the recent Nvidia initial Optimus support).
So, I followed uninstallation instructions on Ubuntu Wiki: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bumblebee
There is nothing wrong with that, but it seems uninstalling Bumblebee affected Unity desktop, although 3D rendering was not affected. Also, even though I had Bumblebee installed, it had nothing to do with Unity - Unity always used Intel GPU - besides I didn't even use Bubmlebee.

The problem appeared just after I rebooted. LightDM launched, I entered the password and waited ... (nothing happened). So, I was trying to find out what is going on. As I already mentioned, 3D rendering worked well. Eventually, I tried to log in as a host, which worked as it should with Unity, so I determined it may be some mess in the configuration.

After I removed all unity config files in my home (I am not sure which file did the trick), Unity started working again.

One interesting thing I noticed when trying Gnome Classic (not fallback): there was no shadow around windows, but when I logged into Unity with my account (still in that messy state), there was a shadow - and Compiz was running. Metacity also worked and so did nautilus (desktop). Therefore I suppose the problem was Unity specific, because it was the only thing that didn't work.
When I tried to execute Unity from that "clear-compiz" session, it killed metacity and still didn't work (as to error messages, unfortunately I can't remember what were they about).

My configuration: Ubuntu 13.04 (upgraded from 12.10 about 2 months ago)
Asus Zenbook UX32VD (Intel® Core™ i7-3517U CPU @ 1.90GHz × 4; 9675344 KiB RAM)
