alien fails to convert rpm to deb

alien version 8.86
perl 5, version 14, subversion 2 (v5.14.2) built for i686-linux-gnu-thread-multi-64int

The rpm package to try:
http://www.lsi.com/products/storagecomponents/Pages/MegaRAIDSAS9280-24i4e.aspx
Download MegaCli from section "Management Software and Tools".

Run the command:
sudo alien -dc MegaCli-8.07.07-1.noarch.rpm

which gives the error:
Unpacking of 'MegaCli-8.07.07-1.noarch.rpm' failed at /usr/share/perl5/Alien/Package/Rpm.pm line 168.

Same error with oracle-instantclient12.2-devel-12.2.0.1.0-1.x86_64.rpm and oracle-instantclient12.2-sqlplus-12.2.0.1.0-1.x86_64.rpm which can both be downloaded from Oracle at: https://www.oracle.com/database/technologies/instant-client/linux-x86-64-downloads.html

But I've seen some forums with the same problem related to some other Oracle rpms from that download page as well...
