Bug Description

Hi, as you can see in the title, I want to propose my idea about the current LTS 12.04. With the version 13.04 of Ubuntu, there will be no longer in the future versions Unity- Compiz and others components and the time of support this version is too short ( 9 months ). So, why don't you backport Gnome 3.6.3 [please see bug 1184862] and Unity 7 in Ubuntu 12.04.3?? This update will come out in August right? So there are 4 months after Ubuntu 13.04 to fix other bugs of them (gnome and unity).

There is also another backport that I propose, the backport of the kernel 3.8.0.x ; it has increased the performance of the computers, for me it could be very good to see in the next update of the 12.04 LTS. What about it? [Please see comment 4 in this bug report]

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1165692/+editstatus and add the package name in the text box next to the word Package.

Is this idea good for the team? 4 more years of support of Unity-Compiz will be good!!!

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Raring's kernel will eventually be backported to Precise, please see http://askubuntu.com/a/279392 and https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/LTSEnablementStack for more information on the timing of that backport.

I am leaving this report open for the unity package. Please open a new bug for Gnome to make processing your backport requests more efficint to handle. However, Gnome may not qualify for a backport due to its large number of dependencies and related packages. Thanks.

Sorry - for me it looks that the raring kernel is already backported to precise.

Thanks H.-Dirk for opening a new bug for the Gnome's backport and for checking the status of the kernel's backport. I was dual booting on Windows so I couldn't really check the status of Kernel's backport ( the packages.ubuntu.com site does not find any results for linux-image-generic-lts-raring).
