Bug Description

Several applications are affected by the Ubuntu Studio theme. This theme sometimes lack enough contrast to be readable everywhere. Here is a list of applications that have identified problem:
  - Open Office
  - Update Manager

Important note: I have installed Ubuntu 7.04. I have added the repository of Ubuntu Studio and installed the ubuntustudio-look package.

In Open Office:
The menu and some of the toolbar icon are really difficult to read because they use a black colour which is difficult to see against the dark grey background.

In Update Manager:
When there are available updates, you should usually see in the upper panel something like: "Security update" label with then the list of packages that are security updates or "Recommended update" label with a list of updates which are not critical, etc.
When using the Ubuntu Studio theme, the labels are not visible anymore: the font is using a really light grey colour against a somewhat white background.

I'm discovering this theme, so I guess there are lots of other caveats with contrast that I did not yet see.

I too have observed the same problem as mentioned. This contrast problem also comes up in the compiz-settings-manager window. The contrast is very low to read the options provided in the main window. The text is displayed but it is too difficult to read as it appers very faint.

Most of the issues are related to the incorrect way some apps use GTK. We will work to resolve what we can but will will not be providing a update until 7.10.

Just got 7.10 earlier this week and I am having similar problems with the default theme. i noticed it in vmware and firefox. also radio buttons don't show up as active until you mouse over them. Firefox Bookmarks menu is all white with light gray text, instead of the dark gray background with light gray text.

I am using the gnome-main-menu applet and when I click on "Control Panel" or "More Applications" a popup menu appears and I can choose my application. With this theme the icon area is white and the icons have black text, that's fine. However, when I click on the left shortcut area, i.e. "Look and Feel" the icons in that category are highlighted with the light blue and the icon text becomes white, making it barely readible. This is more a problem with the applet and not the theme I suppose. The Advanced Desktop Effects application has a similar menu but it uses the dark grey for the icon area. Here is a screenshot:

I have fixed some text issues but some things come down to the way app developers have defined the colors for their app. The vast majority of apps function fine with the theme. I will contact the AptOnCD guys about this but we have done as much as we can.

The fix will show in the Hardy release.
