shaded windows block drag and drop

With desktop effects enabled, one cannot drop items to the desktop area that would be covered by a shaded window were it unshaded: Try shading a (larger) window and then move around icons on your desktop. You cannot move them to where the window's content was. They don't seem to drop to the window either, rather the drag and drop just cancels.

This is feisty i386, glxinfo says
