After installing Ubuntu 7.04 I get an "Error activating XKB configuration." error message

Bug Description
After upgrading from 6.10 to 7.04 I get this error message on every reboot or trying to change access the keyboard preferences:
Error activating XKB configuration.
It can happen under various circumstances:
- a bug in libxklavier library
- a bug in X server (xkbcomp, xmodmap utilities)
- X server with incompatible libxkbfile implementation

If you report this situation as a bug, please include:
- The result of xprop -root | grep XKB
- The result of gconftool-2 -R /desktop/

I suspect you may have some left-over gnome overrides for your keyboard settings. Let me know how it goes.
