I suspect it is an instance of this bug:

I'm hitting this as well, with gvfsd-http eventually consuming almost 1 GB of memory on my system, so it's an important bug for me.

Similar to what the Totem user in the Gnome bug report is seeing, this is triggered on my system by opening http audio streams in Rhythmbox 2.98. After that, and even if the stream or Rhythmbox itself is closed, memory usage continues to creep up.

i had gvfsd-http filling memory and bringing down system.

100% reproducible

investigation details;

using a browser divx avi totem plugin, and launching separate window viewer using "open in videos", the video fails to play, however gvfsd-http/sh/pxgsettings continues to grow, downloading and caching in memory? closing window and browser does not stop memory usage growing in background.
