cuneiform fails for almost all images I tested with PUMA_XFinalrecognition failed

[Rose-g]

I tried to apply cuneiform-1.1.0 to some scanned a4 pages (with 200 or 300 dpi). The original image formats after using 'pdfimages' were jpeg or ppm. Then the images were converted in several formats with 'convert'. With one execption all
attempts to do something like
   cuneiform -l ger -f hocr image
or
   cuneiform -l ger -f text image
failed with:
