Bug Description

Hi!

I'm using unity for quite a time now and this bug just annoys me a LOT...
I'm quite organized and do multitasking a lot, so I'm using workspaces to sort out loads of windowses. Usually it happens that arrange windowses in multiple wokspaces in single monitor mode (on a laoptop screen), after attaching second monitor windowses change their workspace, which is really annoying. The same happens when I disconnect the monitor after work throughout the day, I have various windowses on laptop screen and some on external screen in every workspace, after disconnection window placement is erratic. Some of them move one workspace up, some left etc. One more example: I'm preparing one workspace for presenation at my desk using dual monitors, I arrange things I want to show to colleagues etc., then I disconnect external screen ang go to meeting room, after connecting the projector I have unwanted windowses on my screen (which colleagues should not see) and some of needed windowses went away, now I need to hunt them down and bring back to presentation workspace (in addition - this is not that easy, coz there are a lot of the same type windowses already opened, like many terminals or firefoxes, of libreoffice files).
Sometimes I'm using rotation for external monitor which make things even more erratic. So after every connection or disconnection I have to rearrange windowses again. This is not professional.

What I expect is when I put particular window on particular workspace I MEANT IT to be on that workspace, if screen size changes (increases in case of connected screen or shrinks in case of disconnection) window have to stay on the SAME workspace. Move them to visible area in the same workspace, not on different workspace!

The same bug is there for ages, now I'm using 12.04, I tried 12.10 - the same, now I tried Ringtail daily build - the same again.

Please do fix this small but really annoying BUG, if Your target is enterprise, which 12.04 targets sort of, this is important, coz in enterprise we do use external screens a LOT.

Thanks in advance
Eduards

Hi Eduards,

The master bug for this is bug #763148, so I'm going to mark this bug as a duplicate of that bug. The good news here is that this bug should be fixed in 13.04. At this time, I'm not sure if that fix is going to be SRU'd for 12.10 and/or 12.04.

Thanks!
