Bug Description

This occurred with the latest updates as of 2013-03-15. On hibernate command, system screen goes dark, activity increases for a few seconds, and then lock light start blinking in sync as they do during kernel panic. It does not appear that any information is written to disk.

System requires a hard reset; on boot, no saved session is evident, though this bug report does appear automatically.

Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest v3.9 kernel[0] (Not a kernel in the daily directory) and install both the linux-image and linux-image-extra .deb packages.

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag: 'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not boot, please add the tag: 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream'.
Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as "Confirmed".

Thanks in advance.

Sorry, at the moment I haven't been able to test the upstream kernel, though I've tried.

Those kernels don't seem to play well with the NVidia proprietary drivers (tried my usual 313-updates and one of 304 or 310).

Unfortunately, the Xorg nouveau drivers don't seem to play well with my system (tried all new edger drivers, getting latest manually-compiled mesa, etc., but X still can't write a proper Xorg.conf file or detect my hardware capabilities. Tends to fail with a display/device number mismatch error, and fallback or barebones-simple manual Xorg.conf files have no joy, either).

So for the time being, I've reverted to 3.8.0-13 and NVid-313-updates proprietary. Suspend and hibernate both failing as before (suspend with failure on resume that kicks down to BIOS boot; and hibernate, this bug, with kernel problem during attempted session write to swap).
