Bug Description

Hello,

I am trying to print with an (old) Canon Bj200ex printer using a USB-Parallel cable on a Ubuntu 12.04 machine (fully updated), but there is no action after a document is sent to printer. It remains in the queue indefinitely and nothing is happening.

I configured the printer with the standard application and choose
Canon BJ-200 Foomatic/bj200 (recommended) as model
and both parallel:/dev/usb/lp0 and usb://Unknown/Printer as URI.

After printing dmesg looks like this
user@linuxbox:~$ dmesg
[ 1361.554411] usb 3-2: new full-speed USB device number 2 using xhci_hcd
[ 1366.637641] usblp0: USB Bidirectional printer dev 2 if 0 alt 1 proto 2 vid 0x067B pid 0x2305

After cancelling the print job /var/log/cups/error_log looks like this
E [15/Mar/2013:13:01:24 +0100] Unknown directive SystemGroup on line 16 of /etc/cups/cupsd.conf.

I can't find any advice how to solve this problem. Below is the output of the commands as requested by this URL: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingPrintingProblems

Kind regards

Can you boot from a Ubuntu 13.10 live CD or USB stick and tell whether you can print with your USB->Parallel adapter from that system?
