Bug Description

Binary package hint: firefox

This usually happens every few days. I try to leave my computer on as much as possible but I find the whole system freezes after a day or maybe two. I have firefox, amarok, kopete, ktorrent and beryl running all the time. I find it happens when I use firefox, sometimes I might not be using it be it will still freeze.

music, mouse and keyboard will all stop working - no keyboard or mouse response. The only solution is to hit the reset button. Perhaps I should remove firefox and try another browser? I love firefox though : (

Thank you for reporting this issue.
Have you ever used a previous version of Ubuntu [Did you upgrade to Feisty ?]. If yes, did you used to have the same problem with that previous version of Ubuntu ?

Changed in firefox:
assignee: nobody → desktop-bugs
status: Unconfirmed → Needs Info

Could you please tell us the details of Power Management Preferences ?

I have used both Dapper(Kde) and Edgy (Kde) - I did experience the problem in edgy but not very often and I didn't realise that it may have been Firefox. I did not upgrade to Feisty, I formatted my drive and did a fresh install. My desktop is now Gnome.

Power Management Preferences:
Put computer to sleep when inactive: Never
Put display to sleep when inactive for: 40 minutes
When power button is pressed: Ask Me

Thanks for your help.

Thanks for the info.
Now it seems that the trouble lies in the power management kernel modules. Any way please attach the outputs of the following commands:
lspci -vnn
lsmod
dmesg

Just confirm that there is no connection between beryl and this problem. Try running without it and see.
Thanks

My computer has been operational for 3 days now. I have had Beryl running but have been using firefox much less. When I leave my computer on overnight I make sure I close firefox and when I check my pc the next day, my computer is still running. Usually its completely frozen. I'm thinking the problem might be with Firefox, this is the only change I have made and have yet to run into problems. Still I would like to find out why my computer freezes if I have firefox running for lengthy periods.

Thanks for your help. Any more suggestions will be helpful.
