Bug Description

There are no backports modules for precise in repositories.
In quantal there is cw-3.6, where alx and other drivers are built for current kernel.
In precise people have to make these drivers from source and do it every time they update kernel.

Please add something like
linux-backports-modules-cw-3.6-precise-lts-quantal-generic to the repos.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1149056/+editstatus and add the package name in the text box next to the word Package.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. However, I am closing it because the bug has been fixed in the latest version of Ubuntu - Quantal.

This is a significant bug in Ubuntu. If you need a fix for the bug in previous versions of Ubuntu, please do steps 1 and 2 of the SRU Procedure [1] to bring the need to a developer's attention.

This is a regression in LTS version precise and needs to be fixed there.
There is backports package for kernel 3.2, but for 12.04.2 default kernel is 3.5.

The only thing to be done is to copy package from quantal, since it has same kernel version.

Thank you, @fabiomarconi, for the hint with the link. I am not sure, if I understood well the steps indicated, but I give it a try:

[Impact]
I agree to pilot 6: The package should be made aviable for 12.04. Since I upgraded from 3.2 to 3.5 the microphone is not working anymore (so: no skype). Thats a major regression that must not happen in an LTS .

[Test Case]
When i have installed 3.2 (with backports) and 3.5 Kernel (without backports), the Mic always works with 3.2 and never with 3.5.

[Regression Potential]
none, I think

[Step 4: Ask someone in the Ubuntu bug control team to nominate the bug for the appropriate Ubuntu release(s)/series]
Fabio, since you are member of the bug control team, I ask YOU to nominate the bug for the Ubuntu 12.04 release. Thank you very much!
