Bug Description

Following the tutorial for edgy here: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WifiDocs/Device/NetgearWG111 using the latest drivers from the netgear website (one of which is athfmwdl.inf).
Ubuntu crashes when the dongle is plugged in, it connects to the network, but after that, nothing. Not even the mouse can be moved. This worked perfectly in dapper & edgy. I like feisty, but I like having the internet more, so please don't make me downgrade just to get it working again.

Extra information is attached (containing syslog entries) It may contain typos, because I had to hand-type it my windows laptop as ubuntu was completely frozen

After checking, Ubuntu does connect to my wireless network, however ping time out, and Ubuntu goes unresponsive.

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Which version of the ndiswrapper do you have installed? You can check via 'dpkg -l ndiswrapper'. Thanks in advance.

$ dpkg -l ndiswrapper
No packages found matching ndiswrapper

$ ndiswrapper -v
utils Error: no version specified!
driver version 1.43
vermagic: 2.6.20-15-generic SMP mod_unload 586

I HAVE installed it though, in fact I re-installed it and ran the 2 commands again, getting the same results. I instaleld by downloading the deb from the feisty repository and double-clicking it.

Sorry about that ndiswrapper seems to be a virtual package, try 'dpkg -l ndiswrapper-common'. Thanks again.

I have exactly the same issues with Feisty freezing/crashing with the same combination of Netgear WG111T wireless USB dongle and ndiswrapper. No matter what I do the result is always a total system crash a few seconds after the USB dongle is inserted. Some more info for you...

'dpkg -l ndiswrapper-common' for me gives "1.38-lubuntul"

I am using the WG111T v1.3 drivers from NetGear. The device ID is 1385:4251.

'ndiswrapper -l' reports that the netwg111t driver is installed.

I do a 'depmod -a' followed by 'modprobe ndiswrapper', the system then freezes almost immediately after I connect the USB dongle. I have attempted to collect syslog entries but they are not being saved. I have managed to take a screen-shot however and can email it if required.

I have attached a photographic screenshot of the kernel crash log. Sorry it has to be a photo but none of this is saved to /var/log/messages.

I had the same issue with netgear wg111t on feisty. Simple solution is to get ndiswrapper 1.47 an build yourself from source.

Marking as fixed. I hope this was already fixed in 1.45 which is in gutsy, though I expect gutsy to have the latest ndiswrapper soon.
