Bug Description

Have a look at the example.ods attached. The process of opening it takes 80 seconds on my system, though the size is just 8.7 kB. The example.ods was originally my file for personal contacts which at one point started to misbehave as described. I have deleted all the other tabs and all the content visible now. However, there seems to be something left somewhere. When I do CTRL+A Delete and save the problem disappears. I would expect that something like this should not happen.

I have tried on precise and quantal and I can not reproduce your problem.

With the help of gnumeric I have found out now that cell F7 contains an emailaddress followed by some abnormal content (see screenshot attached). With calc I can see the email address but not the rubbish that follows. It is possible to just delete the email address in a way the cell looks empty but is not really. When I delete all the content of this cell everything works as expected.

Jesusfreak, does the LibreOffice PPA provide a WORKAROUND for you via https://launchpad.net/~libreoffice/+archive/libreoffice-4-0?field.series_filter=quantal ?

No, it is not a WORKAROUND. The problem persists also with this PPA version.

Jesusfreak, thank you for performing the requested test. Did this issue not occur in a release prior to Quantal?

I cannot give an exact date when this problem occurred to me the first time. I didn't notice the issue prior to Quantal, but it is very well possible that this was just because the problematic content of cell F7 did not exist in the file yet.

Here is some activity. I have just tested it with libreoffice Version 4.0.2.2 (Build ID: 400m0(Build:2)) and can still reproduce this bug.

It opens instantly for me on LibreOffice 4.1.

Maybe try on a LiveCD or clear your libreoffice config by opening a terminal and running:
mv .config/libreoffice/ .libreoffice-old

Seems to be fixed now, Version: 4.2.6.3 opens the file instantly.
