Hello,
I installed Ubuntu Linux (send to my house, thanks) and discovered the network
was not working after installation. But I could use Computer -> Settings ->
Network so this shouldn't be a problem. However, there is a problem. The
network-admin program (package: gnome-system-tools) that gets called doesn't
start when the network doesn't work. This is because sudo prints an error to
stderr and doesn't seem to be able to handle it then. So the gksudo program just
hangs and then silently disappears. The error that sudo gives is (but is not
visible when called from gksudo ofcourse, but it's logged to syslog);
/usr/bin/sudo user: unable to loop <hostname> via gethostbyname()
So in my opinion gksudo is called with the argument of 'network-admin' but
somehow fails because sudo echoes something unexpected, causing a timeout in
gnome which seems to kill gksudo.
