Bug Description

Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

After I restart X server using CTRL-ALT-BACKSPACE, the next time I login into Gnome,
the brightness applet doesn't work. The tooltip says "Cannot get laptop panel brightness".

Machine : Lenovo thinkpad R60
OS : Feisty Fawn
Gnome Version : 2.18.1
Power Manager Brightness applet version : 2.18.2

I have the same problem. In my case, it is due to stray gnome processes that aren't killed properly by <ctrl>-<alt>-<backspace>. Logging out and killing them from a text prompt fixes the problem.
