usb redir cannot be supported because

pool/universe/u/usbredir/libusbredirparser0_0.4.3-2_amd64.deb

is in universe. Note also that it is 0.4.3-2, whereas qemu's configure claims it requires 0.5.

Please do feel free to work toward getting that into main, then I would love to enable it in qemu.

What shoud I do to get "usbredir 0.6-1" moved from universe to main in 13.04 Raring ?

I believe if this page
                  https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/raring/+source/usbredir/0.6-1
would report "main" instead of "universe" problem will be resolved.

The main inclusion process is documented at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MainInclusionProcess

See https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/spice/+bug/1101978 for an
example of how spice was MIRed.

This bug depends on (a) bug 1126513, and (b) usbredir being updated to a new enough version.

Is there any workaround for people who want it "just to be working"?

@Daniel,

the simplest workaround would be to build libvirt in a ppa with usb redirection enabled.

usb redirection is still disabled in qemu in saucy (13.10). Is that intentional or can it be fixed now ?

qemu can't be linked against usbredir until bug 1126513 is resolved.

Does this mean we will all be enjoying qemu-kvm-spice with usb redirection in 14.04?

In fact it is now enabled in 14.04.
