Bug Description

1) Ubuntu 12.10

2) gnome-control-center 3.6.3-0ubuntu11~ubuntu12.10.1

3) I want all build in/connected cursor moving devices (touchpad, mouse, external touchpads etc.) to be configured seperately like it's possible with gpointing-device-settings. The before mentioned package does't work propperly with Ubuntu anymore (changes aren't persistent #489830) and isn't updated anymore so it would be nice to have these features directly in the control center.
Please add an option to configure all input mouses/touchpads/etc. seperately.
I'm not sure about design guidelines but this could be sorted by tabs for every device that's connected. Also settings for every device should be saved somewhere so when you connect an external device the next time the settings should be restored.

4) On my Lenovo laptop I have a Lenovo trackpad and a touchpad, and I often use an external mouse or an Apple Magic Trackpad. At the moment in Ubuntu it's not possible to configure them all seperately considering the different natures of the mentioned input devices.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. The issue you are reporting is an upstream one and it would be nice if somebody having it could send the bug to the developers of the software by following the instructions at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Upstream/GNOME. If you have done so, please tell us the number of the upstream bug (or the link), so we can add a bugwatch that will inform us about its status. Thanks in advance.

I filed the desired bug at Gnome Bugzilla. It's "Bug 693744".

Thanks! I see that upstream WONTFIXed the request, doing the same here...

As I wrote in Gnome Bugzilla it's pretty sad that this won't be fixed.

I thought maybe like for other additions in the gnome-control-center this could be also done by Ubuntu. For example the cursor with my Magic Trackpad is far to slow to be able to work fluently. Also there is a discrepancy between my build in trackpad and the touchpad of my laptop.

ideally we would have infinite resources and could work on all the improvements requested, in practice that one doesn't seem like something we will get to any time soon...

Sure thing that you don't have the time to deal with every minor issue instantly.

But isn't setting this bug to "Won't fix" telling other people that they shouldn't have any hope that it ever will get fixed a little bit to much? (I'm not too familiar with the guidelines how to bug statuses) It sounds like "bad/stupid/unworthy idea" that never will be considered. Wouldn't be "Opinion" more appropriate? Just my 2 cents worth.

So maybe we should stop that here as I know that this is some minor thing (even if it is influencing the connection of the user and the software).

well, we keep it as wishlist confirmed if that was a composant where Ubuntu is upstream, we do try to limit the amonth of changes/patching we do over GNOME though since that makes our maintenance work much harder over time. The status used there is just a reflexion of the decision of people writing the code, maybe in a few cycles we will reconsider or go a different path for the input settings (like we did already for some other panels), at which point that will be something we can reconsider
