I could solve this problem by re-building rdesktop, which is really fairly easy:

  sudo apt-get build-dep rdesktop
  fakeroot apt-get -b source rdesktop
  sudo dpkg -i rdesktop_*.deb

Please try this and provide feedback if it solved your problem with rdesktop too.

Now, after some other updates in gutsy, (version 1.5.0-2), neither the recompiled, nor the package from the repository work any more.

rdesktop always crashes after the login. I can see the login screen and type in user name/password, but when I hit enter, rdesktop crashes.

Output of rdesktop:
> Autoselected keyboard map en-us
> WARNING: Remote desktop does not support colour depth 24; falling back to 16
> WARNING: rdp_in_unistr: iconv fail, errno 7
> Segmentation fault

Info in dmesg:
rdesktop[8028]: segfault at 0000000000a40001 rip 00000000004190b4 rsp 00007fff907e89a0 error 4

Unfortunately, apport does not catch this crash, as there are no files in /var/crash
