Bug Description

Bitstream font do not contain iso-8859-2 characters. On the page
http://dejavu.sourceforge.net/wiki/index.php/Main_Page exists the same fonts
with iso-8859-2 characters and in new version with Cyrillics characters. Name is
changed due license of original font. I suggest add this font or create new
package ttf-dejavu.

Another good and working replacement for Bitstream Vera are the Hunky fonts,
name changed because of the license. According to the author:
"Hunky Fonts are free TrueType fonts based on Bitstream’s Vera fonts with
additional letters for Baltic, Central European, South European and other
languages, including Maori, Welsh and Esperanto. They are licensed under the LGPL."

I think that ttf-bitstream-vera should contain some modified fonts including
international characters, and the install script should add an alias, so
programs relying on Vera would work correctly.

Is this the same problem?

Characters like o (o with top acute) or o-umlaut (o with two dots on top) are displayed incorrectly in this fonts.

In attachment a PDF to illustrate the problem
