Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. I am reassigning this bug to the octave3.2 source package because the plot command does not actually have anything to do with the octave-plot package.

I am unable to reproduce this problem with gnuplot. Is it reproducible for you every time you start Octave? Are you able to reproduce it using a different user account / clean home directory? One guess is that you might have an X11 setting for gnuplot that is interacting badly with the way that Octave uses gnuplot.

Does the following command list anything:

xrdb -query | grep -i gnuplot

affects: octave-plot (Ubuntu) → octave3.2 (Ubuntu)
