Unable to upgrade to Xubuntu 12.10 from 12.04 version

Bug Description
I am running Xubuntu 12.04 currently and unable to upgrade to version 12.10. The error being reported is:
Error: [Errno 13] permission denied: /var/log/

This has to do with the fact that you are using the xorg-edges PPA and the distribution upgrade failing to calculate the upgrade. You might have better luck upgrading if you remove the PPA and return to Precise's video drivers.
