Initial issue:
With the old BFB, some people (new users mainly) don't know the BFB like button for a dash
Trouble with the new dash icon :
We don't understand why there are a whirlwind with the logo of Ubuntu.
If Unity can, animate the BFB at some moments like after starting might be an answer of this both issue.
The Ubuntu whirlwind logo should more logical if it have a rotation animation.
Of course new bfb is not a critical trouble just strange detail ^^

More seriously, the new Ubuntu logo is not so ugly, but it is completely irrelevant to the Ubuntu global design and to the new icons (software center, folder, etc.)..
It seems that the goal is to make people want to click on the BFB, but I do not think this ninja styled icon will change anything. Starter animation at first session opening (like some android) would be more effective.
