Packagekit doesn't remove /var/cache/apt/archives/lock

Bug Description

I have selected in nautilus pop-up menu: Open with > Another app > Search online apps, I have installed one of them but when the process finished doesn't remove /var/cache/apt/archives/lock.

This can never happen. Can you reproduce this issue? Did packagekitd crash? Is maybe PackageKit just running and still processing stuff when you try to write-access the archive?

I have removed packagekit and its dependencies. It gives much problems.

I don't know if you even used PackageKit here, but PK gives as much problems as aptdaemon, if it is performing background tasks and you want to run another tool which is not aware of that.
Besides that, "problems" is not very helpful ;-) Maybe file bugs if you have a specific issue.

I cannot reproduce this issue here, so I suspect PK simply was still running in the background, maybe pre-fetching updates.

This issue is fixed with PackageKit 0.8.x and a patch was backported for Raring.

Depends whether someone from Ubuntu backports this change... I can only modify Debian, so I can't do that. In general, it looks like stuff like that is only backported to LTS versions or for default components (Unity desktop).
