Bug Description

*This bug is actually for version 2.20.19-0ubuntu1.* I had to revert the package to 2.20.18-0ubuntu1 in order to get a desktop and not lock the system.

When logging in through lightdm, the machine would hang hard before getting to the desktop. I could not diagnose what the issue may be because of the hard hang.

@Timo,

Yes, it does hang using that xorg.conf and the old version of xserver-xorg-video-intel package.

there's a newer driver upload available since earlier today, try if it's any better with it.

@Timo,

I tried version 2.20.19-0ubuntu2 and still get the hang.

Could you provide the Xorg log from the hanging session? It should be Xorg.0.log.old after you've rebooted. Although it's possible that the system is unable to log anything at that point..

try a mainline kernel snapshot as well:

I've attached the Xorg.0.log.old for you viewing pleasure:)

I also tried the latest mainline kernel as you suggested and still get the hang.

Instead of reverting the package, I modified that Xorg.conf file you provided earlier and changed AccelMethod sna to uxa and of course it works now.

One other thing that occurred to me in. This machine is a pre-production version of a Dell Inspiron N5110 which is "borrowed" from PES. The BIOS is a pre-production BIOS and I have no way to upgrade it to the A Rev production BIOS. I wonder if that is playing into this since no one else seems to be affected by this (yet).

[ 25.596] (WW) intel(0): Detected unsupported/dysfunctional hardware, disabling acceleration.
[ 25.836] (WW) intel(0): cannot enable XVideo whilst the GPU is wedged
[ 25.836] (WW) intel(0): loading DRI2 whilst the GPU is wedged.

so the reason it fails with sna is that even though it's broken pre-production hw, DRI2 is loaded whereas with uxa it isn't.

affects: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu) → mesa (Ubuntu)
