Bug Description

Using Linux Mint 14 with KDE, lightdm and lightdm-kde-greeter were installed via regular updates with mintupdate, showing me a debconf dialog asking for which Display Manager (Kdm or lightdm) I want to use.

"$ aptitude why lightdm" reports this:
i kde-workspace Recommeds lightdm-kde-greeter | kdm (>= 4:4.9.4-0ubuntu0.2)
i A lightdm-kde-greeter Depends lightdm

So I deduce it was installed because an update to kde-workspace (may be from 4.9.2 to 4.9.3).
I think this behavior must be avoided because it is confusing to the standard user.

We have two options:
1) Patch kde-workspace package to recommends kdm instead of lightdm-kde-greeter.
2) (the best choice for me) Switch from Kdm to Lightdm for the next Linux Mint KDE release.

This is definitely confusing to a new user. Same situation happened to me on a fresh install during the update process. Afterwards I was asked which is the default, my question is what affects does choosing kdm of lightdm as the default have on the system and vise versa?

I agree that something needs to be done here. Perhaps adding a little more information in the popup explaining the choice in an easy to understand way.?
