Bug Description

Binary package hint: evolution

I'm using the standard 2.10.1 version of Evolution on Feisty (7.04) which I've just loaded from scratch having attempted to update from Edgy but found a few things were strange.

I exported my Calendar from Outlook 2000 in CSV format and I can read the file OK in Open Office.

When I Import in Evolution the Calendar is imported as Contacts which isn't quite what I want.

What's up?

Pete

Thank you for your bug. How do you import it? Could you attach a small example to the bug?

Sorry its taken me a while to get back to you. I've created a 1 entry calendar on Outlook which effectively is still created as a contact in Evolution. I've attached my Outlook .csv file. I hope it will help. Remember this is Outlook 2000 so it maybe just that Outlook has moved on and Evolution is compatible with an updated version.

upstream comment: "please export to vcf or ics. i don't think that csv is supported."

To say it isn't supported isn't really correct. It doeasn't work as it should since the information is imported to the calendar instead of the contacts. vcs and vcf only appear to be Import options in this version of Outlook.

Sorry my previous comment was wrong and therefore confusing. I wanted to import my Calendar from Outlook and that is imported to Contacts in Evolution. The upstream comment about vcf seems irrelevant since vcf is a contact format isn't it? I don't know ics.
Anyhow I still think this is a bug (even if its a minor one) since Evolution import procedure asks you if this the file is an Evolution .csv or an Outlook .csv file so the developer clearly expected a .csv file. How the choice is made of where to put it I don't know (although I'll check when I've rebooted to Ubuntu) but presumably there's some header information in the file. More news in the next post.

Having now looked at the files Outlook creates, I realise that its basically guesswork based on the contents of the header fields in the first line of the file. The fact that I'm using Outlook in French may not have helped despite the fact that Evolution is configured in French too. I also note that I was wrong about .vcf since apparently the import list includes calendar in .vcf format!
