gmplayer doesn't change video size when switched to fullscreen

Bug Description

Binary package hint: mplayer

When I play some video in gmplayer and switch it to fullscreen, the video windows gets fullscreen but the video size doesn't change. This happens only when playing some video in gmplayer. When I play some file, or dvd, from command line with mplayer the fullscreen resizing works correct.
Another problem is, that when resizing video window in gmplayer, it only resize video window but not video size, after the video size gets to its actual size. When for example video has size 300x150 the video size can be changed only to smaller, not greater then 300x150. After video size is 300x150 then only video window changes its size not the video size itself.

Same here, used edgy.

i can go from command line with:
mplayer -vo xv -fs

as VLC and Totem doesnt work quite well with sub-titles, this command is the best for watching .avi here

Me too, using Feisty (upgraded from Edgy). Summarizing:

1) gmplayer cannot scale to fullscreen.
2) mplayer can get fullscreen but with some flickering on the lower half of the screen.
3) xine & totem crash issuing a:

X Error of failed request: BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes)
Major opcode of failed request: 141 (XVideo)
Minor opcode of failed request: 14 ()
Serial number of failed request: 2062
Current serial number in output stream: 2062

4) Kaffeine runs ok.

Yup, I get this as well, very annoying. Had it for quite some time too, and it is in gutsy as well.

Same problem here. Fullscreen doesn't work in X11 output mode and video "flickers in OpenGL output mode. It looks like if anything is moving (i.e. you receive and IM, a webpage refreshes, or even the bar moving across the gmplayer box) it makes the video flicker in that location. I have found that minimizing all windows makes the video much smoother. However, it is very difficult to read the right click menu due to the video trying to cover the menu.

I have also found another bug report that appears similar https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mplayer/+bug/71502

from what my further searching has uncovered fullscreen requires hardware overlay which is only available with the Xv output mode. You may have to change your xorg.conf file to get it to work (unpleasant). Or maybe X just doesn't like your video card.

Maybe you already tried this.

We can't do much about this - you need to use Xv.
