Bug Description
Since upgrading to Feisty my machine reboots instead of halting whenever I select "shutdown" from the gui or enter "shutdown -h now".
The kernel I am using is the same one I was using under Edgy (a hand-rolled 2.6.19.1).
I have had some other problems which might be connected:
1. The original upgrade didn't complete because the installe thought I didn't have enough space in /boot (despite having 28MB free). This meant that I had to unmount /boot and then complete the upgrade, which means that something else might have got mangled in the process.
2. I now get a constant stream of messages like this:
[ 2336.717007] device-mapper: table: 253:0: linear: dm-linear: Device lookup failed
[ 2336.717351] device-mapper: ioctl: error adding target to table
I used to get a few of these messages under Edgy, but not the 1000s and 1000s I get now. One consequence of all these messages is that it is pretty well impossible to find anything useful in the output of dmesg.
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. I believe that the ability to power off the system is intertwined with the kernel and since you are running a kernel not provided by Ubuntu I am not sure how we can help you.
