Bug Description

1) Reproduction Recipe:

a) On a blank OpenERP database, install the "Accounting and Finance" module
b) Complete the configuration wizard. In this case I chose the "UK - Accounting" accounting package and the "UK Tax and Account Chart Template (by SmartMode)" chart template
c) Go to Accounting -> Charts -> Chart of Accounts
d) Leave the settings at their defaults, and click 'Open Charts'
e) The drop-down box will contain the default company name of "Your Company", as we haven't had an opportunity to configure it yet.
f) Go to Settings -> Companies, change the name of "Your Company" to "ACME UK Ltd.", and save the change.
g) Repeat steps c & d to view the chart of accounts again.

The same issue affects the chart of taxes.

2) Observed Result

The company name on the chart of accounts (and chart of taxes) is still displayed as 'Your Company'

3) Expected Result

The company name should reflect that configured on the Companies screen.

4) The platform you are using (and browser version, if relevant)

Fedora-17, Firefox-18.0.

5) OpenERP version

OpenERP-7.0-20130116-001601

Note that there is an easy enough workaround if setting up a new OpenERP installation; before step a) above, install the 'Address Book' module. That allows access to the companies screen (steps e & f). Once the company name is changed, the reproduction recipe can be followed again, and this time the correct company name will be displayed on the Chart of Accounts and Chart of Taxes.

Hello,

The drop-down box in 'Chart of Accounts' and 'Chart of Taxes' doesn't show the company name. For 'Chart of Accounts' it is the root account with no parent account and for 'Chart of Taxes' it is the root tax code with no parent code and it changes with change in their respective values.

There would be no effect on these dropbox names on changing the Company Name.Hence the bug is invalid.

I hardly think this bug is 'invalid'. Thanks for explaining how to work around it though.

By default, when you install the Accounting and Finance module, the root account and the root tax code are given the same name as the company name at that time. If this is the first module you've installed, this name will be 'Your Company'. If you then change the company name, a discrepancy occurs immediately between the company name and the name given to the root account and root tax code. I shouldn't have to manually change the name of the company in 3 places (and changing the name of the root tax code also involves switching on the 'technical features' access right as well).

Maybe a warning/wizard could pop up when saving changes to the company name that asks you whether you want the name of the root account and root tax code to be changed at the same time? Alternatively, this could be solved by the Accounting and Finance wizard prompting for the company name, so that the root account and root tax code are given the correct name straight away.

Thanks,

Matt.

Hello,

Its valid bug and its issue of usability.

I agreed to `Matt Burgess`.

When you going to setup new database its process installation with simplified view.

During installation `OpenERP` does not offer to setup company name.
So it takes default one and after completion of setup if you change company name,
It show strange behavior.

Here need to improve usability of installation execution process.

Also, *** when selecting chart of account then relevant currency should be set as default in installation process.
Like setup US chart of account then set default of currency USD.

Thanks for the understanding!

Hello,

Appreciated the suggestion on comment#3 by Matt Burgess, and he is completely right the account chart name comes from the account root account and chart tax account comes from the root tax account.

We can put the some kind of improvement on this when we changes on the company name. But actually this is not a bug because on production database once company is set up then most probably the user doesn't change it.

So I am considering this as a improvement and set this as a "Wishlist", We will consider this as a feature roadmaps.

Thanks for the discussion!

For anyone else hitting this, the workaround I'm using is to do the following:

./openerp-server -d AcmeLtd -i account_accountant,l10n_uk --without-demo=all --load-language=en_GB

Once the server is up and running, change the company name from 'Your Company' before you do anything else. At this point, you can now configure the chart of accounts and it will use the correct company name for the root account and root tax code.

Matt,

I was stretching my hair trying to figure out what I did wrong with the Chart of Account Company Name, only to find out the it's a long known bug. Any feedback for a fix? your workaround is not very ideal for a production system specially with inexperienced clients..

More power.

Robert
