Bug Description

When I run dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg I am asked if I want to detect my monitor, and then I am asked about the monitor parameters. Apparently the monitor is not detected. X detects the monitor just fine.

Thanks for the info that X is detecting your monitor correctly; long term the plan is to replace the current detection system with one built on X's automatic detection system, so it's very good to hear positive stories about that.

The negative story is that the exact same monitor fails to detect on mga matrox g400 and g550 and Radeon 9250.

I think I used the DVI to VGA convertor when connecting the monitor to the newer Radeon. Of course, this should not prevent the monitor from detecting.

Also some X drivers have the braindead default to ignore the info read from the monitor. They just log it but never use it unless a special option is set. Like the radeon driver included in Feisty.
