painful audio distortion

Video files which sound great in other programs and through the same audio system (i.e. pulseaudio) are producing painful distortion. Worked great last time I used vlc.

I have the same problem (AMD A8 notebook, Realtek ALC269VC) - all programs work great except VLC which produces distorted sound. Fiчed by upgrading to latest VLC (http://www.tecmint.com/install-vlc-2-0-5-in-ubuntu-12-10-and-linux-mint-14/)

 * Fix playback initial synchronization with PulseAudio
   (however similar bugs in PulseAudio version 2.0 and later still exist)

Matter of updating to 2.0.5

VLC 2.0.5 is in quantal-security. Therefore I mark the bug as fixed. Please report back if 2.0.5 doesn't fix your issue.
