Bug Description

Doesn't matter what app window, generally between the 2nd or 4th closure of any will cause a total lockup.
No errors, crash reports or anything written to any log.
Doesn't matter if gnome-shell installed on a current raring ubuntu install or a gnome3 only install done from the mini iso. (filing from the latter
Same occurs with the new packages in gnome 3 staging ppa

The only thing that does work when this occurs is ctrl+alt+FX will go to a tty

First showed from gnome-shell upgrade to 3.6.2 from 3.6.1 in raring.

What does prevent this completely is to run gnome-shell from a terminal (gnome-shell --replace
Then as long as the terminal is open all is normal as long as just staying on the workspace where the terminal is, (though the terminal can be minimized.
If going to another WS the lockup will again happen, only having GS running from a terminal on current WS prevents..

Probably a hardware corner case though possibly more could be affected down the road (Dell 1330m, nvidia, occurs with both nouveau & nvidia-* drivers

I too have this same issue. I didn't know which package to report this bug to, but this seems to be the right place.

I dont know how hardware specific the issue could be like the OP suggested, as my computer is very different then his. I have an acer aspire 5553 with an AMD phenom processor and a Radeon HD4500 graphics card running the Open Sourced drivers.
