Bug Description

After starting Audacity, its main menu bar is invisible, though usable after pressing F10 key. The menu bar will be displayed properly after entering the Preferences dialog.

Removing Audacity's configuration directory does not help.

I've taken some screenshots to illustrate the problem.

Please downgrade the wxwidgets2.8 packages from 2.8.12.1-6ubuntu2.2 to 2.8.12.1-6ubuntu2. Following command should do the trick:

sudo apt-get install libwxbase2.8-0/precise libwxbase2.8-0/precise

Did that, but the menu bar's still gone. Do I have to log off and back
in, or trash Audacity's configuration, or something else?

Merry Christmas!

There are probably more binary packages from wxwidgets2.8 that you need to downgrade. Run "dpkg-query --list | grep wx" to show them all.

After downgrading libwxgtk2.8-0 to 2.8.12.1-6ubuntu2 the menu bar is fine. Thanks! Is this going to be fixed in 12.04 LTS?

wxwidgets 2.8.12.1-6ubuntu2.2 was in precise-proposed (but not in precise-updates). It was removed from precise-proposed precisely due to this issue. Therefore the bug is fixed, but needs to be manually installed by people who have precise-proposed enabled via downgrading the package to the precise version again.
