Bug Description

Binary package hint: update-manager

if i choose the proposed updates in synapic then im offered to install the 0.45.3 version of update-manager, yet this on doesent allow me to upgrade to feisty, i had to manually downgrade to 0.45.2 using:

sudo apt-get install update-manager=0.45.2

then the little button appeared again and i could upgrade.

TEST CASE:
To test the failure that this bug fixes you would have to install 0.45.3 that is no longer available. This is why the instructions just contain a positive test, not a negative one.

0. use edgy
1. install update-manager 0.45.4 from edgy-proposed
2. run update-manager and verify that there is a new release avaialble button
3. close update-manager
4. open it again and verify that the button to upgrade is still available

Thanks for your bugreport.

I can (currently) not verify the error, can you please apply the attached patch to /usr/lib/python2.4/site-packages/UpdateManager/MetaRelease.py and run update-manager again from a terminal? It should print a useful error message then. Please attach the output here then.

I got update-manager 0.45.4 installed, and it still gives me no option to upgrade, same goes for 0.45.2...
Nothing I did, including starting with a clean .update-manager folder shows me the button to upgrade to feisty.
Are there any news and/or suggestions on this bug?

The status of this is that 0.45.4 fixes #107716 (send pragma: no-cache) and a regression introduced in 0.45.3.

I will add verification instructions for both reports.

I investigated this bug and #107716 again and it is not needed to push it into edgy-updates anymore. The fix in #107716 was about adding a "pragma: no-cache" header when the meta-release file was downloaded to work around over agressive proxies. In the meantime all proxies will have updated the meta-release information so this update is not required anymore and 0.45.2 from edgy-updates does just fine.
