Bug Description
Hello,
We use Webmin in our high school. We report this problem to Webmin's author and he confirmed us that he uses /etc/init.
So, even we know that this script is deprecated, we have to use it (Webmin) in order to do graphical administration with our pupils.
You can see the system crash after taking these steps:
1. Install Ubuntu Server 12.04.
2. Execute command: sudo /etc/init.
3. Execute command: sudo /etc/init.
4. Execute apt-get install xorg.
5. Steps 2 and 3 again. No problem
6. Execute apt-get install gnome-core.
7. Step 2. No problem.
8. Step 3. The system crashes.
That it's, after installing gnome-core package, something happens with the /etc/init.
We've also trying to upgrade the packages, but that doesn't work.
Thank you!
Cristian.
networking brings dbus down which will in turn kill pretty much everything on the machine.
This is known and this is why we tell people not to do this.
Webmin is an unsupported configuration tool which has a very strong tendencies to mess with the system in a way that makes the system completely unsupportable. This is the reason why webmin was removed from the Ubuntu and Debian archive a long time ago.
