Scanner on HP M1212 MFP not found

Hello,
  This is a similar issue to #947666 but the OS and HPLIP version number are different. I can print find but SimpleScan or XSANE can't find the scanner. Below are the specifics:

1. OS: Linux Mint 13 64-bit
2. HP M1212 MFP

4. I can print but SimpleScan or XSANE cannot find scanner

5. Steps to replicate:

-On a Linux Mint 13 64-bit Cinnanmon machine, install HPLIP 3.12.11 for HP M1212 MFP device

-Try to scan an image using SimpleScan or XSANE

-Get error that scanner cannot be found

Hi,

Seems like In Linux mint 13 64 bit symlink between /usr/lib and /usr/lib64 is missing or changed.

We will fix this issue in next HPILIP release, meanwhile please make following changes from scan functionality.
1) copy libsane-hpaio files into /usr/lib/sane folder
   $ sudo cp /usr/lib64/sane/libsane-hpaio* /usrlib/sane

2) start scan functionality
   $ xsane

Same issue here with HP HP LaserJet M1536dnf MFP, in Ubuntu 13.04.
