Audio breaks after some time, and always breaks after logout & login unless reboot occurs. [System Product Name, Analog Devices AD1988B, Other SPDIF Out, Rear] fails after a while

Audio on the Asus SupremeFx card I have seems to stop after some time. I am using digital outputs and have tried re-starting pulseaudio. The audio will break after I log out and log in again and it will break at random after the session has been active for some time.
