OpenType OTF fonts not working

Hi,
Recently I have problems with using OpenType fonts like Helvetica Neue and Museo Sans Rounded. When I try to change the font for one of those OTF fonts, I get a empty preview box in the Text and Fonts dialog, and then when I apply the font, I get a empty selection that looks like a horizontal line.

Some time ago I were working with the above fonts to make the logo of my website and it were working well.

Based on the tag 'win32' added by the reporter (no information about the OS provided otherwise):
This is not an Inkscape bug - a recent security update for Windows (all versions) broke certain types of fonts in many graphical applications (not only Inkscape is affected [1]). Microsoft by now has acknowledged the issue:

«Known issues with this security update

    We are aware of issues related to OpenType Font (OTF) rendering in applications such as PowerPoint on affected versions of Windows that occur after this security update is applied. We are currently investigating these issues and will take appropriate action to address the known issues. »

Setting bug status to 'Triaged' for now, since it's likely that other duplicate reports will be filed until Microsoft publishes a proper fix.

Confirmed uninstalling Windows XP updates KB2753842 & KB2779030 on Inkscape 0.48.2 worked. Thank god, was freaking out for awhile why all my SVGs weren't displaying text

According to the latest update of MS12-078, Microsoft has released a new version of the security update to address the known issue (2012-12-20):

«Known issues with this security update

    The original version of security update 2753842 had an issue related to OpenType Font (OTF) rendering in applications such as PowerPoint on affected versions of Windows. This issue was resolved in the version of this security update that was rereleased on December 20, 2012. »

I haven't seen reports/feedback yet how this second version of the security update affects Inkscape - there are initial indications though that this is solving the problems e.g. for CorelDraw and QuarkXPress:

I just applied the Windows security update (2012-12-20) and it worked! Inkscape OpenType (OTF) rendering is restored.

Closing as 'Invalid' for Inkscape - the second version of Microsoft's security update (2012-12-20) fixed the known issues introduced with the initial version (2012-12-11).
