Bug Description

I just installed Beta 2, and I can't start it. I'm getting the following message:

---------------------------
Mixxx - Critical error
---------------------------
QFontEngineWin: GetTextMetrics failed ()
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------

This is Beta 2 installed over Beta 1, which had been working just fine.
Windows 8 64bit, updated from Win7 64.

Everything in Beta 1 was working just fine on this configuration.

The bug seems to be transient. After rebooting, I cannot reproduce the error. It still may be worth looking into if the message is unique enough to identify the source of the error.

Did you download the 32-bit or 64-bit version of 1.11b2?

I see this example:
http://serverfault.com/questions/140791/issue-running-32-bit-executable-on-64-bit-windows
where someone saw that error and just rebooted, but they are saying they were using a 32-bit executable on 64-bit windows.

Changed in mixxx:
importance: Undecided → Critical
milestone: none → 1.11.0
summary: - Crash on startup, v1.11b2
+ Intermittent crash on startup, v1.11b2

I downloaded the 64 bit version. It did start working after a reboot, though. That's the common thread for what it's worth.

The failure happens in qfontengine_win.cpp at line 337.

It looks like there must be something wrong with the default application font Mixxx uses.
According to the Qt Doku, Qt should always pick a valid font.
I have no idea how to check that.

Is Mixxx actually crashing? Or is this just an issue of this annoying warning?

I think Mixxx should not crash just because of this warning.
Maybe it crashes later due to an invalid font?

Have you a mixxx.log of a crash run? Are you able to produce a back trace of it?

I have not been able to reproduce the bug, but it consistently crashed in exactly the same way until after I rebooted. Since then, it has not happened again.

Thank you for your update.

I am afraid there is nothing to do on this for 1.11.
So I will set it to won't fix for 1.11.
