turn off the notifications in accordance to the messaging menu status

The messaging menu status (online/away/busy/offline) should not be restricted to instant messaging. Switching it to "busy" should turn off the new mail notifications, especially the popup and the sound.

I'm not sure this is a Geary bug. We built our messaging subsystem to comport to Ubuntu's guidelines: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MessagingMenu and http://developer.ubuntu.com/resources/technologies/messaging-menu/ I don't see the behavior you're requesting discussed there -- please point it out to me if I'm wrong.

It's probably more about notifications in general that would be turned off depending of the messaging status.

I can't say I saw this behaviour in other applications as I barely use instant messaging or other applications that go in the way of work. I just felt that Geary was annoying with it's constant noise and pop-ups while I was trying to focus on my work.

I know nothing about these guidelines. Maybe they could be updated to integrate this behaviour?

My feeling is that this is a Messaging Menu feature request. I think it's a reasonable idea, but this should be forwarded to them for consideration. I'm including them in the affected projects list for this ticket.

I should also note that GNOME Shell has a solution to this problem. In the user menu (top-right corner), there's a "Notifications" switch. Turn it off, no more notifications.

This has nothing to do with the messaging menu, as that doesn't actually show the popups.
