Bug Description
I've read both bug 964238 and bug 963470. It would appear that my experience is similar to both instances, although the mechanics behind this issue may be different.
Item the First: I have disabled the display of the launcher shortcut overlay.
Item the Second: I have set “Hide Launcher” to “Autohide”, and “Reveal Trigger” to “Left Edge”.
Item the Third: I have set the launcher hotkey to <Menu> (sorry, but I've long been used to <Super> shortcuts, and using <Super> for the launcher reveal cramps my style).
The problem is intermittent, but annoying. When it decides to reveal its ugly head, I will tap <Menu>, and the launcher will reveal with the keyboard shortcuts overlain. The dash will not open. The launcher then hides after a moment. If I mouse to the left edge to trigger the reveal, the shortcuts still show.
While these numbers are showing, /even when the launcher is hidden/, pressing any of the launcher shortcut keys (/without/ <Menu>) results in the shortcut activating. To make the shortcuts go away, I have to /press and hold/ <Menu>. Sometimes, upon release, the dash will come up, sometimes not.
I've started to come to like the dash. I'm running 12.04 64-bit desktop on a production workstation. Unity version is 5.18.0. Compiz version is 0.9.7.9. I'm afraid I don't know how to retrieve the Unity plugin version.
