Bug Description

Using the 2012.11.28 daily build of 13.04 (i386) and fully up-to-date. No option is visible to set the horizontal two-finger scrolling. It is of course adjustable through a script modifying synclient or changing the config file for xorg, but in 12.10, this was available in the mouse & touchpad menu. (Although I prefer the layout of the new menu, I'd like to see this functionality restored).

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1084737/+editstatus and add the package name in the text box next to the word Package.

Thank you for your bug report, the dialog has a "two finger scroll" checkbox here, it's not the case for you?

"Two finger scroll" is indeed present, but this only activates vertical two-finger scrolling, not horizontal two-finger scrolling.

The issue you are reporting is an upstream one and it would be nice if somebody having it could send the bug to the developers of the software by following the instructions at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Upstream/GNOME. If you have done so, please tell us the number of the upstream bug (or the link), so we can add a bugwatch that will inform us about its status. Thanks in advance.

The same is true for edge scrolling, which is enabled by default:

In order to enable horizontal scrolling run the following command:
dconf write /org/gnome/settings-daemon/peripherals/touchpad/horiz-scroll-enabled true
(The setting is still available in dconf editor)

- scrolling.

This also affects one-finger edge scrolling. There is simply no checkbox to turn horizontal scrolling on.

For me (13.04 64bit) even scrolling at the edge of touchpad does not work anylonger + there's no checkbox to activate it. Currently I have to use the sidepanel, klick & draw it up, or down.

There is a way to enable horizontal scrolling which I’ve found accidentally! :D

Open dconf Editor
Go to org > gnome > settings-daemon > peripherals > touchpad
check horiz-scroll-enabled

There is also an option for edge scrolling: write "edge-scrolling" (without quotes) for scroll-method. It shoud be the default.
